Lewis Goes on a Bend

As a teenager, I dreamed of being a spy. My imagination fed on cinema portrayals of the glamour and excitement of espionage, and my ego thrilled at the thought of sharp clothes, gorgeous girls and fast cars. My gift for mind-reading, I knew, would make me an exceptional special agent.

Formula One sensation Lewis Hamilton last night summoned the powers of spoon-bender Uri Geller and the spirit world in his bid to become world champion.

The McLaren ace suffered a huge setback last week when he slumped to 12th in the Japanese Grand Prix after a disastrous performance.

It cut his lead over Felipe Massa at the top of the drivers’ table to just five points.

And after the misery of last year’s title defeat, Hamilton was determined not to let history repeat itself.

We can reveal the British race ace prepared for this morning’s Chinese Grand Prix with the help of spoon-bender Geller.

Metal-mangling Uri is a massive Hamilton fan and has agreed to help keep the race hopeful “on track” via a series of “positive thinking” text messages.

The Berkshire-based psychic, who claims to have “mentalist powers” has kept the Brit’s mind visualised on victory and to help him avoid any repeat of recent mistakes on the track.

Hamilton, who started this morning’s race in pole position, hoped that by harnessing the “power of the mind” he could overcome the setbacks which have seen him lose valuable ground in the battle to be world champion.

Before today’s race in Shanghai, Hamilton was stuck on 84 points – just five ahead of Brazilian Massa with only two rounds left.

Speaking exclusively to the Daily Star Sunday, Uri said: “He is a great guy.

“I spoke to him about being positive and believing in yourself.

“I told him I believe what you visualise you can materialise.

“If you go there with your mind you can go there with your body.”

Uri, 61, added: “All I can say is that I met him and discussed the power of the mind.

“I told him dreams can come true but if he wins this year his success will ultimately be down to his own hard work. Over the last 40 years I have been contacted by a host of sports stars, including tennis stars and footballers, who have asked me to help them with positive messages.”

The pair met after Uri spotted Hamilton in London’s Piccadilly last month when the 23-year-old racing star was out shopping with his friend and N*E*R*D frontman Pharrell Williams, 35.

Uri performed his famous spoon-bending trick for the Grand Prix star, who was so impressed that he swapped mobile numbers with the Israeli-born psychic and promised to keep in touch.

The spoon-bender is currently filming The Next Uri Geller in Russia – a TV show he hopes to bring to the UK next year.

In the reality series, budding psychics compete to become their country’s “Successor to Uri Geller” in an X Factor style talent competition.

Uri added: “You have Pop Idol or American Idol looking for talented singers but there is no show looking for the next great mentalist.”

“Uri Geller gave an absolutely resonating talk on his life and career. He had every single magician in the room on the edge of their seats trying to digest as much information as they could. Uri emphasized that the path to frame is through uniqueness and charisma and that professional entertainers must be creative in their pursuits of success and never shy away from publicity.”
