Simpson wins at Sonning
THE Yiewsley Angling Society Uri Geller Trophy match fished on the River Thames at Sonning on Sunday, was won by Clifford Simpson with a slab-tastic net of bream weighing 38 lbs 6 ozs.
The winning method was the feeder and red maggot.
Second place went to Bob Bull with 12 lbs 2 ozs of roach and bream, also taken on the feeder and Ray Tillyer was third with 10 lbs 3 ozs of fish also taken feeder fishing. Fourteen anglers took part and landed just over 100 lbs.
West Drayton Angling Club had their latest match on Castle Ashby lake where Kevin Eldridge took the top spot with a 19 lbs 7 oz mixed bag on pole fished sweecorn.
Dave Perry was second with 10 lbs of bream on the maggot feeder and Roy Padley was third with an 8 lbs 15 oz mixed on mag’n’wag. Thirty-three fished, ten blanked and a total weight of 93 lbs 1 oz was recorded.
The River Colne is currently fishing well despite its low level.
A 13 lb 1 oz barbel has been caught by Steve Chitty and 20 to 30lb bags of chub are becoming a formality.
Mark Foxwell had a 30 lb bag of chub from Huntsmoor on stick float fished maggot and casters.
