BORN in Tel Aviv on December 20,1946, Uri Geiler celebrates his 53rd birthday tomorrow. A distant relation of Sigmund Freud, he is best known for his unusual spoon-bending abilities with

nothing more than a bit of mental concentration. His parents were shocked when, at the age of five, a spoon slowly bent in his hand during a meal and finally broke. His mother thought there

was something of the Freud about him and told little Uri to keep quiet about what happened. But he practised and developed his skills further by holding demonstrations in school.

After a career in modelling he began to work publicly with telepathy and psychokinesis and by the time he was 25 he had become a household name in Israel. A year later Geller sought wider

fame and headed for Europe where he stopped a cable car in mid-air and an escalator in a

department store. But Europe wasn’t big enough. He had come to the attention of eminent scientists who set up a multitude of scientific experiments for him, testing his extraordinary claims.

Witnesses included Arthur C Clark and the late Arthur Koestier, as well as the Director of the Rocket Division of Rolls Royce.

Dr Wernher von Braun, the German nuclear physicist and ‘Father of the Space Age’, found his wedding ring melting during a meeting with Geller without being touched by him.

Geller continued to amaze scientists the world over. In 1991 he stopped Big Ben, a feat he repeated twice more. He has a potent Sun-Mars conjunction in Sagittarius which is an excellent configuration for those who want to make a living out of working with metal. Mars is joint ruler of Scorpio where Geller has four planets, giving him extraordinary psychic abilities and the unusual skill of curling spoons.

Neptune in the house of hidden activity brings inspiration and a natural flair for telepathy, whilst Uranus, the inventor and ruler of sound waves, in aspect to the healer-asteroid Chiron, has inspired him to invent a shield against harmful energy emissions from hand-held phones.

Over the next two years Uranus is making stunning aspects to his Scorpio planers, a sure sign that Geller will go on displaying those extra-sensory powers that we all potentially possess ourselves.

“Uri Geller gave an absolutely resonating talk on his life and career. He had every single magician in the room on the edge of their seats trying to digest as much information as they could. Uri emphasized that the path to frame is through uniqueness and charisma and that professional entertainers must be creative in their pursuits of success and never shy away from publicity.”

The nails are real, the keys are really borrowed, the envelopes are actually sealed, there are no stooges, there are no secret radio devices and there are no props from the magic catalogues.”
