THE JEWISH CONTRIBUTION TO THE 20th CENTURY
GELLER, Uri (1946) Israeli entertainer
Uri Geller was born in Tel Aviv on December 20th 1946. He became a celebrity in the early 1970s with what he claimed was the power of mind over matter or psychokinesis. The main manifestation of this power was the ability to cause forks and spoons to bend, and he has performed all over the world. The result appears to be that many canteens of cutlery have been deformed and clocks permanently stopped, but his audiences are most impressed. Geller is voluble concerning the origin of his powers and espouses theories on extra-terrestrial activities. He is still news, still bends cutlery and no one appears to care that there is probably no rational explanation of all that he does.
