PSYCHIC AIDS CANCER PLEA
Date : 10.08.05

Psychic Uri Geller has thrown his weight behind brave little Bobby Wright’s fight against a rare cancer. Three-year-old Bobby, from Kenn, near Exeter, who is suffering from neuroblastoma, was today set to undergo surgery in Bristol to remove a tumour.

Mr Geller has pledged to support a campaign run by Bobby’s father, Kevin, to send the toddler to a state-of-the-art cancer hospital in New York.

And Mr Geller opened his Berkshire home up to Bobby, his parents Kevin and Jacqui and his nine-year-old sister Katie.

Mr Geller said: “I was in Devon for the launch of Dom Mee’s boat. I stopped at a petrol station on the way home and saw Bobby’s story on the front of the Echo.

“The story touched me so I rang Kevin and offered to contribute some money and invited them to come and visit me.

“They came on Saturday and I showed them around my house and then I bent a spoon for them. Bobby was amazed.

“I open up my house to seven or eight ill children a year. With the older ones I can talk about the power of positive thinking.”

Mr Geller, an Exeter City fan, is also trying to find a place in New York for the Wrights to stay if they can raise enough money to send Bobby to America for the treatment.

He said: “I lived in New York for 10 years very near to the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

“I visited the hospital many times.

“It is the best hospital to cure these types of cancer.

“I pray to God they will find enough money to send him there.”

Bobby, who has undergone chemotherapy for the cancer, was due to have an operation today.

Kevin said: “He’s his usual unfazeable self.

“He got up yesterday and said: ‘Let’s go Bristol, get rid of this cancer’.”

Mr Wright said that Bobby had enjoyed his visit to Mr Geller’s house.

He said: “I am very grateful for Uri’s involvement. He showed us round his house and his art collection and demonstrated spoon bending to Bobby. It was definitely worth the visit.”

Bobby’s mother, Jacqui, is running a stall at the Kenn Charter Fair on Saturday to raise money for Bobby’s appeal – and collection boxes have been distributed across the city. The fair will be held in the field opposite the Ley Arms.

“Uri Geller gave an absolutely resonating talk on his life and career. He had every single magician in the room on the edge of their seats trying to digest as much information as they could. Uri emphasized that the path to frame is through uniqueness and charisma and that professional entertainers must be creative in their pursuits of success and never shy away from publicity.”
