Rider’s mind-bending speed
Spoonbender Uri Geller exercised mind over matter to help a cyclist shatter a record.
He yelled support yesterday as Bruce Bursford set a new world record speed for nonstop cycling for 60 minutes.
The cyclist rode his customdesigned static roller machine at an average of 121.9 mph breaking the previous record which had stood at 34.1 mph.
Bursford, aged 38, has been training for four years for the event – in the 24 hours before the attempt he consumed 10,000 calories.
Bursford’s record, which was set on static rollers at the Brooklands Aviation and Motor Museum, in Weybridge, Surrey, was performed on the Ultimate Bike, which he designed.
He used the bike, which weighs less thank 11 lbs, earlier this year to become the holder of the solo cyclist absolute speed world record, reaching 210.2 mph.
