BENT SPOONS, collapsing chairs and stopped watches which started for no apparent reason these were just some of the extraordinary incidents witnessed by readers who took up Uri Geller’s amazing challenge in the last issue of Shalom.
The millionaire Israeli psychic asked you to look into the picture of his eyes and run your hands over an orange dot-a deliberate colour choice according to Uri because it’s “a mixture of red and yellow; red symbolising physical energy and yellow mental energy on the front page for three minutes at 11.11 am on Sunday, June 16, so that he could “share my psychic powers with you”.

He then asked readers to participate in another experiment. “Fetch any broken watches or clocks. Wind them up and put them on the orange dot… and concentrate very hard and WISH the watches and appliances were working again. What I am attempting to do here is trigger your own dormant psychic energy field.”
Annette Saville from Hendon was just one of many readers who followed Uri’s instructions. She told Shalom: “I placed an old windup watch which had never been of any use to me on the orange dot and it started going again; so there must be something in Mr Geller’s power.”
Another reader whose watch started to work again was Mrs Betty Rashman from Amhurst Park. “I put my watch on the orange dot and it started going again. I want to thank Uri. I think he has a wonderful gift.”
Kurt Fleischmann had a double success. Hendon based Kurt told Shalom: “I not only succeeded in bending a spoon and a fork, I also felt the stool I was sitting on giving way under my weight. On closer examination I found that one of the four legs, not only was bent, but seemed to have lost its ability to support me and I am just under 12 stone.”
And Mrs L. Laromy from Finchley also had a remarkable story to tell: “I couldn’t believe it! I just looked at the orange dot and looked at the photo of Uri Geller’s eyes. My old lighter I got 30 years ago from Switzerland, which now stands as an ornament, has a small watch–and it started to work. It’s still going very nicely.”
