Students bend skills into shape
BENDING spoons need not be exclusive to Uri Geller.
For now Fifers can learn how to manipulate metal into all sorts of shapes – without the use of heat.
Glenrothes College has launched a new night class teaching students to make objects such as tables, plant- holders, candlesticks and even garden gates using scrollbending metalwork equipment.
The metalcraft and scrollwork course is taught by Bill Bruce, who developed his skills as part of a series of experiments and has now become expert in the technique.
Bill said: “Good results are achieved quickly to the extent that one past student started metalcraft and scrollwork as a hobby and successfully developed it into a cottage industry.”
Classes are initially being offered on wednesday evenings only but if they prove popular may be extended to a part-time day programmme.
