Toad the Wet Sprocket – Dulcinea
A review of Dulcinea
“First things first – let’s get this out of the way. The name Toad the Wet Sprocket comes from a sketch by Monty Python. Now, we can go on.. Toad is a great 4 piece guitar band. The music sounds equally well at low volumes and even better when it is rattling the walls a little bit. How do they do that? Doesn’t work for Zepplin. Oh well. This album, as well as Toad itself is just infectious. It was recommended to me by a good friend who worked in a record store a few years ago. [Todd Harrold is the friend by the way. A hell of a drummer and aneven better songwriter. I will see if I can dig up some info on the Todd Harrold Band soon.] Todd is also quite the musicologist and once I got to trusting his recommendations, I just bought what he suggested. This was one of those albums. I don’t exactly recall what I thought when I first listened to this. I suspect that I played two or three times before the Sprocket magic ended up working on me. But, that it did. I can’t recall ever not just loving this CD. Fear and Coil are also very good, but this, to me, is Toad at their best. Where else could you get a line like, “I can’t believe the way you bend your words like Uri Geller’s spoons?” Do you even know or remember Uri Geller? Test tomorrow. Get Toad. Get Wet. Become Sprocketized. Oh no! Have I fallen prey to Toad Speak? The link below is to the official Toad Web site. The graphics are wonderful, even if the frames get a bit annoying. “ (Taken from http://www.onecom.net/michael.edwards/toad.html) |
Lyrics to Nanci
I can’t believe you You bend your words Like Uri Geller’s spoons Not quite safe here When every judgement Seems to smack of doom Are you OK? I’m just fine You take Nanci For me Loretta’s fine A legal precedent Could set us straight But no one’s brought up suit And I’m assuming That if they did The point would still be mute Are you joking? No I’m just fine You take Nanci For me Loretta’s fine No I’ve changed my mind I’ll take Nanci For you Loretta’s fine And still we walk without quite seeing things And I’ll admit there’s not that much to see And I will follow through And expect that you will follow suit |

“Uri Geller gave an absolutely resonating talk on his life and career. He had every single magician in the room on the edge of their seats trying to digest as much information as they could. Uri emphasized that the path to frame is through uniqueness and charisma and that professional entertainers must be creative in their pursuits of success and never shy away from publicity.”
