URI GELLER really did it buy the book when he bumped into Chief Rabbi DR JONATHAN SACKS after Shabbat last weekend. Uri spotted the Chief in a London West End bookshop – leafing through Geller’s Little Book of Mindpower. After introducing himself to Dr Sacks, Uri bought his own book from startled staff and presented it to the Chief, who was shopping with his wife, ELAINE.
Magazine kid David is the prince of sales
TEENAGE press baron DAVID DULIN is a real Welsh rarebit when it comes to publishing – after launching the Swansea Jewish community’s communal magazine at just 15 years of age.
Now, three years later,.the goahead sixth-former has roped in my Telegraph colleague URI GELLER to help with a major relaunch. David, the only Jew of his age in a dwindling community of around 100, publishes the magazine, Croeso Shalom, on his Packard Bell PC, using Microsoft Publisher software. He’s clearly a quick learner too – having scooped a ‘highly commended’ accolade in the Board of Deputies Jewish Community Press Awards after just a year of publication. The title is a Welsh-Hebrew amalgam meaning Welcome Peace and persuasive David has now managed to haul in Marks and Spencer as his main sponsors, along with a string of other companies including Gees kosher butchers in Birmingham. The son of retired pharmacist LIONEL DULIN and his Liverpool-born wife PAT (nee Davidson), David – who is working towards his A levels this summer – hopes to move into journalism full time when he completes his studies. He already writes player-profiles for the Swansea City FC match programme, and it was through the club’s commercial manager MIKE LEWIS that he met Uri. Now ambitious David, who designs and produces Croeso Shalom entirely by himself and is always looking for contributors, says: “1999 is set to be the biggest year yet for the magazine.” “We may be a small community and produce a small magazine, but we have some great things happening.” The new edition of Croeso Shalom is available, price £2.20, by calling David on 01792 201026.
