If you’re fascinated by The X Files, this week we have set up an X-periment that’s just for you! We’ve teamed up with world famous spoon bender Uri Geller to see if you can pick up on his thought waves.
WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO
At midday today, sit down and concentrate on the five symbols below. Put your hands on Uri’s picture and concentrate on the middle of his face. At 12 midday, Uri will be thinking about just one of these symbols and only he knows which one it is!
If one of these images comes to your mind, we want you to write down the letter of that symbol and send it in to us. The results will show us whether Uri’s telepathic powers work with YT readers! Send your cards in to our Compo Corner address (on page five), marked “Uri”. Then we’ll open the sealed envelope to reveal which symbol Uri has drawn. The first 10 correct cards from our bag will win a copy of the November edition of Uri Geller’s Encounters magazine, signed by Uri. And we’ll feature the results in a few weeks in YT. YT meets that Geller feller and encounters the world of the strange.

Uri, how did you first discover your amazing powers?
I was about 4 years old when something bizarre happened to me. I was playing in a garden when I heard kittens crying and I started looking for them. The next thing I can remember was a light in the sky like a ball of fire and then I felt a zap like a beam and I fell into the grass. A few days later, I was eating some soup. As I lifted the spoon towards my mouth it started bending. And then it actually broke!

Did it scare you?
No, it intrigued me. It astonished me. I was puzzled why others couldn’t do it. Children at school would nag me to show them what I could do. I would focus my mind on a boy who was good at mathematics and I could copy just by staring at the back of his head!

Are we all telepathic?
Yes. I believe we all have these powers but they are dormant in most of us. Mine have woken – just a fraction – and this enables me to demonstrate these powers. I believe that I am tapping or channelling into some sort of cosmic energy out there that triggers this in me – and it’s within all of us, too. In the future, everyone will be doing it.

Do you believe there is another life form in our solar system?
No doubt in my mind. The two recent mind-blowing reports from Nasa about possible life forms on Mars and Jupiter have strengthened my belief that soon there will be an encounter. There is so much interest around with films such as Independence Day, Phenomenon and, of course, The X Files on TV.

Do you ever watch The X Files?
When I watch The X Files, I watch them as non-fiction! I see them as real. I have a magazine called Uri Geller’s Encounters all about the paranormal. In it we report on people who have encountered UFOs. That’s why I have to pay attention to everything that happens around the world involved with the unexplained, the supernatural, the paranormal.

You’ve had a lot of success in sports training, haven’t you?
I do secret work with lots of sports stars. I started by mentally training the boxer Muhammad Ali. When I was a teenager I trained the local Cypriot football team who won the championship.

What work did you do with the England football team?
During England’s matches in the European Cup this summer, I hired helicopters and flew over Wembley to transmit positive thoughts. I wasn’t allowed to go and talk to England before the match against Germany, but I was seated close to the players. When Gareth Southgate got up to take his penalty, I felt something awful was going to happen. I wanted to get down to tell the England manager, Terry Venables, to let someone else take that kick. Two policemen had to hold me back and make me return to my seat. I should have been on the bench with the rest of the squad.

What’s the key to success?
We have to be more open minded. My message for kids is, believe in yourself, focus on becoming a winner. If you start smoking, drinking, or taking drugs, you’re a loser. We need to be positive about our bodies, our minds, and our futures.

Do you ever get fed up with people giving you spoons to bend?
If the people are nice, I go ahead. But if they are sceptical, I just don’t do it!

During our interview, we presented Uri with a broken watch. He held it for a few minutes and when we left, the watch had started ticking again. And it’s still going. . . spooky!

The Geller guide to sporting success

1. Build a TV screen in your mind.
2. Into that screen, place your goal. For instance, if you play football, imagine yourself scoring.
3. Train hard, think positive. Sooner or later, whatever you place in that screen will happen.
